Happy New Year Everyone!
I hope you all had a good Christmas – I did. I got some brand new sewing books and a journal from Paperblanks, so I’ll be making and designing all year long – I can’t wait to get started 😊
For this month’s blog I wanted to outline some of my own business New Year’s Resolutions for Sew-Drops, and I hope that I can achieve all of them throughout the upcoming year…
No. 1 – Start to Design and Create My Very Own Product Patterns: I base a lot of my sewing on things I’ve read and made from books (which I am allowed to make – don’t worry). However, this year I’m going to start to come up and create my very own patterns which can then be made up into products. I know I’m not going to have lots of patterns by the end of the year, as by listening to my sewing icon Debbie Shore, it can take months of testing and practicing just to make one decent product pattern – but if I start small and work up towards making more and more of my own patterns in the years to come, then I will consider that a huge step forward for Sew-Drops.
No. 2 – Attending more Craft Fairs: Back in December we attended our first two Craft Fairs. We enjoyed them so much that throughout this year we will be looking to attend more local fairs with fabrics, kits and handmade gifts in tow.
No. 3 – Continue to Learn and Expand on Patchwork and Quilting Skills: As many of you will know from reading the ABOUT section and previous BLOGS on our website, I am accredited with my City & Guilds Patchwork & Quilting, Skill Stage 2 and I am hoping to complete my Skill Stage 3 early this month. After that I will have completed all my work and studies, but I know that it is important that I continue to keep up to date with all the latest quilting and patchwork techniques.
No. 4 – ‘Sew Easy Like Sunday Mornings’ Monthly Chat Group: Some of you who follow us on Facebook might remember that back in August/September 2019 we started up ‘Sew Easy Like Sunday Mornings’ where we uploaded music videos of easy-listening tunes (sung by myself) once every 1st Sunday of each month just to have something a bit different on our page other than just sewing. However, in October it was cut short as due to the new copyright music laws, the videos weren’t allowed to be uploaded (due to the background instrumental music), and it would’ve seemed a bit pointless to upload a muted music video, wouldn’t it? 😊
So, after a lot of thinking of what we could do instead, I am very happy to announce that ‘Sew Easy Like Sunday Mornings’ will return in February 2020!
Okay, so this is how it’s going to work. Every 1st Sunday of the Month, we’re going to do a specific topic post (each month will be different – and sometimes not strictly sewing related) on our Facebook and Instagram pages where you can get in touch with me (via the comments section), and tell us what products, kits and fabrics you’d like to see on our website going forward.
No. 5 – Name and Create the ‘Sew-Drops’ Mascot: Since Sew-Drops first went live, you may have noticed that there is a small Otter who pops up from time to time on the Homepage and other areas of the website, as well as in social media posts too. Many of you might be wondering “Who is he?” Well, he is the ‘Sew-Drops’ Mascot, and this year I’m going to make him. When I say ‘make him’ I literally mean ‘make him’ from fabric, create the ‘Sew-Drops Otter’ so hopefully in time he will be easily recognisable and associated/linked to Sew-Drops Ltd. – kind of like you associate Pudsey the Bear with Children in Need.
Another thing I need to do is name him. It’ll be 1 year this month since I first drew him and he still doesn’t have a name – I have a few written down in my notebook, I just need to whittle it down to the one I like the best. Maybe I could ask you the readers to choose if I’m really struggling to come to a decision.
Well that’s my New Year’s Resolutions for Sew-Drops in 2020 – Now it’s time for some New Year Offers!
I thought it would be nice to celebrate the New Year (and decade off) with a sweet offer! Starting today, Sew-Drops is offering a wonderful 25% Discount Off ALL Fabrics! Includes LIBERTY, LEWIS & IRENE, FREE SPIRIT, WINDHAM FABRICS & IN THE BEGINNING FABRICS.
Use the code: NEWYEAR25 in your basket or at the checkout to receive your discount – but hurry! This offer ends on 31st January at Midnight.
Also, during this month we will be getting some NEW Fabric Arrivals. A few weeks ago, I released a sneak preview on social media of what would be coming to Sew-Drops in January. Our next fabric arrivals will be from Free Spirit – They are ‘Reverie’ by Shell Rummel, and to go with this collection we’ll be releasing some new Essential Solids.
As well as that we’ll be adding some Fat Quarter Bundles later in month (possibly early February 2020).
A quick reminder to all those who have signed up to the Sew-Drops Newsletter – going forward, we will no longer be doing a monthly newsletter but instead will be releasing a SEASONAL Newsletter (4 Issues per year).
Finally, don’t forget that we’ve got a Sale on Selected Handmade Gifts as well as some BRAND NEW additions so take a look at those.
you’ve enjoyed this month’s blog and I wish you all a Happy New Year! 😊
